Pigmentation laser treatment in Korea: what to check before booking

Considering pico laser for dark spots, freckles or melasma in Seoul? Learn how to describe your concern, compare the scope of a quote and plan a realistic visit.

At a glance

  • Ask what the clinician thinks the pigmentation is before choosing a device or buying a course. A useful quote identifies the treatment area, method, number of visits, total cost and follow-up; “one session” alone is not enough.

Dark spots, freckles and melasma are not interchangeable labels

The American Academy of Dermatology explains that a dermatologist can distinguish melasma from other conditions. It also notes that dark marks can follow inflammation or irritation. Appearance alone is not a reliable way to choose a procedure from an online menu. [1][2]

Describe where the marks are, when they started, whether they changed and what you have already tried. If you have previously been diagnosed, give the diagnosis rather than translating every brown mark as “freckles.” Photographs can help organise a consultation, but do not replace an examination.

What does a “pico laser” quote actually include?

A device name is only one part of the service. Ask whether the proposal is for specific spots or a broader area, what approach is proposed and whether the price is for one visit or a course. A full-face offer and a limited spot-treatment offer may have different scopes even at the same clinic.

For example, a quote for several selected marks cannot be compared directly with a full-face package containing laser and another procedure. Request a written breakdown before deciding which price is better.

Why a melasma plan may include more than a laser

AAD describes melasma management as individualised; sun protection and topical medicines may be part of the plan, with procedures used in selected cases. It does not present laser as a universal single-session cure. [1]

If a clinic suggests a different approach from the device you had in mind, ask why. Equally, ask why each extra procedure is necessary when a large bundle is proposed. You can request time to consider the options and the cost of each component.

Prepare useful history instead of choosing laser settings yourself

Tell the clinician about past laser or peel treatments, products that irritated your skin, medicines and how your skin usually reacts to procedures. Mention any previous worsening of pigmentation. Ask about the proposed procedure’s risks, including unwanted colour changes, and how those risks apply to you.

Do not request stronger settings because your visit is short. AAD notes that irritation can itself contribute to dark spots. [2] The purpose of the consultation is to choose an appropriate plan, not to fit maximum treatment into a travel window.

Plan around follow-up, not a promise of perfect skin before your flight

Give the clinic your arrival date, departure date and any important event. Obtain instructions about aftercare, sun exposure, makeup and when to call about a concern. Ask whether a review is needed before departure and how later follow-up would work.

If several visits are proposed, ask for their intervals and what a single visit can realistically contribute. Do not buy a course that assumes repeat visits you cannot make. Arrange your own ongoing medical care where you live if the clinic says longer-term management is needed.

How GREY can help you arrange the right enquiry

Send your main concern, Seoul dates and budget. If you want a dermatologist-led assessment, say so; GREY can check consultation arrangements with partner clinics such as REDI. Do not assume every clinic menu offers the same medical consultation or procedure.

A useful message is: “I have uneven pigmentation and want to understand whether laser is appropriate. Please confirm the consultation, proposed scope, total price and follow-up within my stay.” GREY handles booking coordination; diagnosis and the treatment plan belong to the clinician.

Questions before booking

Can one laser visit remove all pigmentation?

That cannot be promised. The diagnosis, selected procedure and response matter; ask what one visit is intended to achieve and whether ongoing care is needed.

Should I book the cheapest full-face package?

First compare the actual scope and consultation. A package name does not establish suitability or mean every included step is necessary.

Can GREY diagnose my pigmentation from a photo?

No. GREY can help organise your enquiry and appointment. The treating clinician performs the assessment.
