Do sagging cheeks and a softer jawline still bother you despite regular lifting treatments? If your skin felt firmer immediately afterwards but your facial contours did not change as much as you hoped, it is time to look beyond the skin’s surface to the supporting tissues beneath.
A facelift is surgery that addresses both loose skin and the tissues supporting the face. It is an option to discuss in a consultation when repeated lifting treatments have not sufficiently improved sagging.
Beyond the skin: addressing the SMAS layer
Girin Plastic Surgery describes a facelift approach that also addresses the SMAS layer beneath the skin. The skin and SMAS are dissected, retaining ligaments that tether the sagging tissues are released, the tissues are lifted and secured, and excess skin is removed.
Planning looks at the structure of the sagging cheeks and jawline rather than simply pulling the skin tight. If neck laxity is also present, you can discuss whether a neck lift should be combined with the procedure.
Planning less conspicuous incision lines
Girin describes an incision approach that follows the inner contour of the ear. The aim is to reduce the visibility of the incision while providing the access needed for the operation. The position and extent of the incisions are tailored to the degree of sagging, with scar care and follow-up continuing after surgery.

Preparing for recovery
Swelling, bruising and a feeling of tightness occur in the early stages after a facelift. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons advises that people are generally presentable for social activities after around 10–14 days, while sensation and tightness may take 2–3 months to settle. Recovery varies with the extent of surgery and individual circumstances.
Allow time for stitch removal and follow-up visits, and agree your return travel date with your treating clinician. Discuss aftercare and surgical risks, including bleeding, infection, scarring and nerve injury, during your consultation.
Prepare your visit to Korea with GREY
Tell us your planned dates in Korea, the areas you most want to improve and your preferred surgical scope. GREY can bring together your Girin consultation booking, promotional quote and VIP eligibility, along with any applicable airport transfers and hotel arrangements.
